Create your own vintage cutting board.

Hello! Today with our first post we want to share with you a very easy way to create your own vintage cutting board for your food photography. Old, used boards looks always awesome in food photography works and there is nothing difficult to make a cutting board by yourself.

How to create your own vintage cutting board.

  1. Paintbrush.
  2. Stain for wood.
  3. Steel brush.
  4. Portable blowtorch.
  5. Knife.
  6. And some Love!

First of all you need to get a new cutting board. Be careful, and read how to use your portable blowtorch before using, it’s very important! Now, take your blowtorch and slowly begin to work on the surface of the board. Don’t stay on the same place, move the fire all around the board. You will see how the board begin change color. Don’t try to burn it too fast, a better result can be achieved when you slowly burn the surface. Burn your board to 50% of the color that you need:

Ok, now we need to add beautiful details to our board, that’s a very important moment as well. Work with a steel brush, knife or other tools to achieve desired effects, we even broke it in two pieces and glued back:

Then continue to burn the board till desired color. Stay a little bit longer with the fire on damaged areas to get more interesting dark corners. You can always add more details if you need, for example a small leather bow on top:

For final touch add a light layer of stain for wood, you need to make it very careful, use a small amount of stain on your paintbrush in this step and make fast movements while painting:

Allow to dry for 30-60 mins. and it’s ready for your food photography!
